Racial Traits
Racial Abilities: +2 CON, -2 STR.
Like Dwarves, Gnomes are tough. They are small,
however, and not as strong as larger humanoids.
Base Speed: A Gnome's base land speed is 20 ft.
Small Size: As small creatures Gnomes gain a +1 size
bonus to Armor Class, a +1 size bonus on attack rolls,
and a +4 size bonus on Hide checks. However, they
use smaller weapons than humans, and their lifting
and carrying limits are three-quarters of those of a
medium sized character.
Weapon Familiarity: Gnomes may treat the Gnome
Hooked Hammer as a martial weapon rather than
exotic weapons.
Racial Familiarity: Gnomes are innately familiar with
the workings of machines and technological devices.
Add +2 to any checks a Gnome makes to repair a
construct or machine or to identify the function of a
technological device. This bonus may be denied if the
Gnome race has had little to no chance of meeting
this technology, either because it is extremely ancient,
rare, or new. It may also be reduced to +1 if the above
conditions are met but the Gnome's knowledge could
still help him determine some properties of the device
by deduction.
Racial Enemies: Gnomes gain a +1 racial bonus on attack rolls against kobolds and
Goblinoids. Gnomes also receive a +4 dodge bonus to AC against monsters of the
Giant type. These bonuses represent the special training Gnomes undergo as a result
of experiences with these creatures in generations past.
Skill Bonuses: Gnomes gain a +2 racial bonus on craft checks pertaining to technology
or Craft (Alchemy). Gnomes are naturally curious and tend to be inventors, and
Gnomes are so familiar with alchemical processes that they can generally identify
them by smell. Gnomes have such keen ears that they also receive a +2 racial bonus
on Listen checks.
Automatic Languages: Common, Gnome
Bonus Languages: Draconic, Dwarven, Elven, Giant, Goblin, and Orc.
Favored Class: Tinker. A Gnome's Tinker class does not count when determining an
experience penalty.
